How to Join the Tenants Union

We’re excited to welcome you into our family! We are a tenants union and mutual aid organization made of other tenants like you.
To become a member, follow the steps below:

Fill out our membership form

1) Be a tenant. A tenant is anyone in a situation where they do not control their own housing. This includes people who are unsheltered, incarcerated, living in temporary housing, living in their vehicle, staying with a friend or family member, paying rent to a landlord, or paying on a mortgage loan to a bank. It does not include members of city, county, or state law enforcement or people who collect rent from others.

2) Read and agree to the Points of Unity.

3) Attend a meeting or check in with a membership coordinator once a month. Meetings are held every other Tuesday night at 7pm. If you can't attend at that time just let us know and we will find other ways to stay in touch with you.

4) Arrange how you want to contribute to the union with the membership coordinator.

5) For members who are able, we encourage monthly donations to the union (sliding scale of $1-20/month). You can pay via PayPal, sent a check or drop off in person at WRTU, 806 Saint Joseph Street, Rapid City, SD 57701

To join, you can fill out our membership form, email us, or call or text 605-223-0099 to indicate your interest in joining and we will be in touch with you!

We meet the first Tuesday on each month at 6pm via Zoom and in person at COUP Council offices (103A New York St, Rapid City, SD). Email westrivertentants@gmail.com or text/call 605-223-0099 for Zoom details.
